In Brief:

In the heart of Shops at Don Mills, Pablo’s took over an existing delicatessen with a concept developed by the interior designer. Medina Architects was tasked with translating a comprehensive conceptual package into a set of permit and construction drawings, using the concept as a general directive to resolve architectural details, confirm suitability of finishes (i.e. slip resistance of floor finishes), and to suggest alternatives to particular architectural gestures. The scope of work was focused on the front of house dining and sales area, while the back of house kitchen, and front of house exhaust hood were maintained, and finishes in the washrooms upgraded.

responsibilities

  • Further developing/resolving the concept with the Interior Designer

  • Development of working drawings.

  • Designing/detailing feature baffle ceiling, trellis, and niche-wall arches

  • Comprehensive lighting studies and schedule proposal.

  • Development of baffle ceiling shop drawing (Revit) for structural review,

  • Working closely with the interior designer who developed the concept and general interior layout of the new café, I developed a set of working drawings that developed the details of proposed interior components, while further exploring and proposing alternative options that we felt was more suitable. Three main features that required attention the most were a custom trellis wall/ceiling finish, a baffle ceiling suspended over the main counter, and three niche-arches. Proportions and construction details were developed, and further refined during site-visits at the construction phase.
